This Splurge-y Weighted Jump Rope Set Is the Reason I’m Down 5 Pounds

Home workout equipment has become more prevalent than ever, but even in a sea of options, the Crossrope Get Lean Jump Rope Set ($99) stands out. Jump ropes are convenient, portable, and incredibly simple to use. I keep the ropes in my laptop bag and bang out a 15-minute workout on my lunch break with ample time to spare for a smoothie. But if you’re new to fitness, Crossrope’s biggest draw is its programming. Pair the ropes with the Crossrope app, and you’ll get a truly effective workout at home. No gym membership necessary. No intimidation from overly aggressive trainers.

The Get Lean Set includes two weighted jump ropes (weighing a quarter- and a half-pound), one pair of fast-clip detachable handles, and an accessory bag. The $99 price tag may seem high, but in my opinion, the ropes pay for themselves in the first 30 days, because it’s infinitely easier to jump rope for 10 to 20 minutes once or twice a day than to do one hour-long, soul-crushing workout that leaves you sore and unmotivated to stay the course. Jumping rope is a low-impact activity that builds endurance, and adding a weighted rope to the equation has the happy side effect of strengthening your forearms, shoulders, back, and triceps.

If you’re still skeptical about the price or that such a small item can have a huge impact, download the free version of the Crossrope app. I guarantee you’ll be won over by the sheer number of tutorials and the meticulous way the instructors explain the benefits of having a strong jump-rope technique. Their enthusiasm will keep you entertained as well as motivated to tackle the fundamentals required for the more advanced moves.

Already know how to do the dozens of jump steps available? The Crossrope app will dazzle you with its massive collection of voice- and video-guided workout timers to keep you on track. The app’s HIIT, strength, and endurance workouts range from beginner to advanced. You can also track your workout history and calorie burn through the app. But the best part is that new workouts post each weekday, and the 10 most recent are available for free. Folks hoping for a more structured routine will love the monthly fitness challenges. My favorite is the 30-Day Get Lean Challenge, which taught me a ton about fitness and helped me drop five pounds.

Now that I’ve had my Get Lean set for nearly three months, I’m proud to say that I still jump rope every day for at least 10 minutes. In fact, I’m considering supplementing my set with the Crossrope Get Strong package (one and two pound ropes), so that I can take greater advantage of the workouts supplied by the app. I’ll bet you’ll be just as happy should you choose to invest in a set, too.
